Scenic operations aplenty with Just Trains’ detailed Cornish Main Line route for Train Simulator!

The Cornish Main Line was built by 2 different railway companies, with Penzance to Truro opening in 1852 and Truro Plymouth opening in 1859. Originally, the lines were built with different track gauges, so no direct trains could run between London and Penzance, but that was eventually changed when both lines were sold to the Great Western Railway who unified the line to their controversial broad gauge in the late 1860s.

It would only be mere decades later when the GWR were forced to re-gauge their entire network to standard gauge, with the line to Penzance being converted in 1892. Many viaducts along the route were also rebuilt with masonry and iron, as their original timber structures were showing their age. One bridge that has stood the test of time is the iconic Royal Albert Bridge which crosses the River Tamar, it was built in 1859 and still stands today.

The line grew popular with tourist traffic over the decades, and in recent years Penzance, the westernmost station on the mainland UK rail network, sees over half a million passengers every year.

In Train Simulator, you will take charge of both passenger and freight services on the Cornish Main Line, serving communities en-route and keeping inter-city travel alive.
