Train Simulator: LNER BR Class 43 ‘High Speed Train’ Remastered Loco Add-On
Rediscover the “Journey Shrinker”, as the instantly recognisable High Speed Train has been given a substantial upgrade in Train Simulator!
Heralded as one of the most important locomotives in British rail history, the BR Class 43, or InterCity 125, or simply High Speed Train, represents a remarkable quest for speed, comfort and style. It also stands as one of the oldest locomotives in the Train Simulator, and has been a workhorse on various routes much like in reality, but now, we have an all-new HST that brings the incredibly detailed model from Train Sim World into Train Simulator, sporting the bold LNER livery!
Throughout the 20th Century, the gradual introduction of motorways meant that the rail industry was losing ridership, slow trains just couldn’t compete with the convenience of personal road transport. To redress the balance, British Rail sought to produce a train which could travel at much higher speeds.
Development started with the “Advanced Passenger Train”, but that project ran into problems, and it was decided to build a stop-gap solution which could be known as the InterCity 125. As the name suggests, it was intended to build a train that would operate at 125 mph, and in fact they would go far beyond that, setting the world speed record for diesel traction at 148 mph.
The “125” entered service in the 1970s, and set the bar for long-distance services that remains unmatched to this day. After working hard for over 40 years, many HSTs have now been retired from mainline use but still soldier on where necessary. The latest mass-retirement took place on the East Coast Main Line, where the LNER fleet of HSTs were gradually replaced by the much newer “Azuma” multiple units.
While their glory days are firmly in memory, you can experience the waning years of the HST’s mainline life with the remastered BR Class 43 for Train Simulator!
A trio of engaging Career scenarios are included for the East Coast Main Line London – Peterborough route:
